While none of the three of us are drummers, and we sometimes have difficulty trying to play, as a three piece, a beat that many drummers would be able to handle on his or her own, we have also been able to come up with some beats that are unconventional and interesting, because of the very fact that we aren't drummers.

Many times, though, we find ourselves in a bit of trouble when employing this method. We, more than one time, have found ourselves with a beat that sounds great. It may be interesting, hard hitting, catchy, awesome, etc., but it isn't something that we are able to write the rest of a song around, at least the rest of a song that would fit with the other songs on the record that we are currently trying to complete.

This is why we wish that we knew Mos Def (Yes, we are white and we like him and we are aware that it is predictable and cliché for white people to like him- #69 on Stuff White People Like (http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/2008/02/17/69-mos-def/). We also love more hip-hop artists than Mos Def, but it's not necessary to list them all, so we won't.). If we did know him, we could give one or all of the beats to him. We think he would love any one of them. This may be dellusion, or it may be our true calling.

Either way, if you know Mos Def or anyone else awesome, who is looking for three producers for a hip-hop album, let us know.

Profundity Pt. 2

"Sex on the beach... With work and school and families and roommates and neighbors and rush hour traffic, it’s been a constant fight against distractions to get things done. So, we’re getting out of here.

The plan is to keep writing and recording through May, when we will then travel deep into the woods of the Upper Peninsula, near the Canadian border. We’re going to go hang out with bears and bald eagles and trout and deer and Lake Superior and the Northern Lights and whatever else we might find up there.

Whether the Northern Lights are solar winds and reflections off of the ice on the North Pole or they are spirits of dead warriors that, when they are the right colors (shades of red), signify impending war or famine or if they are spirits of dead children playing with streamers and drapes, this might be exactly what we need.

The goal is to return with a finished, ready to be mixed record. We’ll see what happens.

__________________________

Post by Todd Miller

Family Vacation.

We are hitting the road this summer. This band is a band that each of us may hate more than most other things in the world. They are in their room everyday, or at least every day that we are in our room.

The crazy thing is that they are either the most eclectic band in the universe, or there are about 7 bands sharing that little room. Sometimes they play covers, sometimes they play originals, sometimes they play originals that sound nothing like the other originals, and sometimes they just scream into microphones. This is infuriating for a couple of reasons.

1. We're recording while they rehearse, so we have to wait until they finish a song and quickly record a track before thy start another song.

2. If there are actually 7 bands in the room, at an estimate of 4 people per band, the normally $300 per month room would cost a measly $42.85 per band per month and even more infuriatingly, $10.71 per person per month.

3. What if it isn't a band of people, but a band of ghosts instead?

But they do pay rent and I guess they have just as much of a right to be there, even though I'd like to pay them to stay away.

Anyway, here are some pictures of us recording some tracks for 53.

______________________

Post by Todd M

A Lull @ Bottom Lounge on February 28 & Lubarski

We'll be playing at Bottom Lounge on February 28 with Alla, Tirra Lirra and The Singleman Affair. We began with 1, then 2, then 3 and so on. When we refer to songs as numbers, this is our way of keeping track of what's what. These days, we're up to 53, but that's not to say there are fifty three finished songs. Some are almost complete, and some may be only a drum beat or a guitar riff.
